Minus Joseph Abshire, 68, died Saturday, April 6. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, April 8, at Matthews & Son Funeral Home in Lake Arthur. Burial will follow in Andrus Cove Cemetery.
Silas Pierce “Pop” Booth
Silas Pierce “Pop” Booth, 95, passed away April 4, 2019, at his residence with his family by his side. Pop was born Oct. 23, 1923, in Guymon, Okla., and has lived in Gillis, La., for the past 50 years. He retired from Dow Chemical Co. and enjoyed being a cattleman and a farmer, surrounded by his sons and their families.
Pop leaves behind one daughter, Dianna Byrd; one son, Randy Booth Sr. and wife Sharon; daughter-in-law, Wilda Booth; brother, Wayne Booth; 15 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his cherished wife of 74 years, Juanita Fitzgerald Booth; two sons, Alan Booth, Robert Mark Booth; daughter-in-law, Michelle “Mimi” Booth; parents, John and Gertrude Booth; brother, John Booth; and sister, Genie Booth Hopson Holsted.
A private memorial will be held for the family.
Naomi Claire Doxey
Naomi Claire Doxey, infant daughter of Aaron and Lacey Doxey of Sulphur, passed away at birth Thursday, April 4, at a local hospital.
Private graveside services will be at Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
Anthony “Tony” Fontenot
Funeral services for Mr. Anthony “Tony” Fontenot will be at 2 p.m. Monday, April 8, in the Rush Funeral Home of Pine Prairie.
Interment will follow in St. Peters Catholic Cemetery, Pine Prairie, under the direction of Rush Funeral Home, Oakdale.
Alyce Theresa Braud Gilmore
Alyce Theresa Braud Gilmore, 63, of Lake Charles passed away Friday, April 5, 2019 in her residence surrounded by her family.
A celebration of her life will be held on her 64th birthday, Saturday, April 27, 2019, at 12:30 PM in Johnson Funeral Home chapel. Bette Talbot will facilitate the celebration. A gathering of family and friends will begin at 10:30 a.m. until the start of the service.
Charles D. “Butch” Grimes
Charles D. “Butch” Grimes passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2019, at the age of 74.
Charles D. “Butch” Grimes was born Aug. 12, 1944, in Hattiesburg, Miss., to Evan Milton and Elizabeth Grimes. Butch was the youngest of three children.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice; and his two sisters, Ann Marie Letts and Linda Evans.
Butch is survived by his two children, Anita Grimes Gavin (Steve) of Gautier, Miss., and Wesley Grimes (Lisa) of Leesville, La. Butch, known as Biggie to his eight grandchildren, Madison Bares (Luis), Hailey Brouillette (Philip), Gage Grimes (Megan), Gavin Grimes (Alexis), Taylor Kathryn Gremillion (Lance), Greyson Grimes, Gabriel Grimes and Elizabeth Grace Grimes; great-grandchildren, Philip Pepiton IV, Paisley Beckett Pepiton and Huxley Emerson Pepiton. Butch also leaves behind his beloved schnauzer and constant companion, Chuckie.
Butch moved to Leesville in 1964 as manager of Hixson Funeral Home. He remained at Hixson until his retirement in 1990. After retirement, Butch had several businesses in the Leesville, Fort Polk area. Butch was a member of First Baptist Church of Leesville and The Leesville Lions Club.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Sunday, April 7, 2019, at Labby Memorial Funeral Home in Leesville. Friends may visit from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, April 6, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Petal, Miss., with his parents and sister.

Rev. William Ivan Swain Sr.
Rev. William Ivan Swain Sr., was born July 29, 1949, and passed away on April 4, 2019, at the age of 69 in a local hospital. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine. He was an evangelist, traveling all over the United States, sharing the gospel for over 30 years. He loved to spend his free time hunting and fishing. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Veronica Swain; children, Ivan Swain Jr. and wife Anna of Starks, La., Seth Swain of Iowa, La., Regina Marie Swain of Kinder, La., and Jodi Fruge and husband Dustin of Iowa, La.; grandchildren, Nicholas, Madisyn, Ian, Drake, Wyatt and Bella; and great-granddaughter, Avery.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan Swain and Marie DeVore Swain.
Family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Monday, April 8, at Riley Smith Funeral Home, 1810 West Fourth Street, DeQuincy, La. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, at the funeral home. The Rev. Adrian Littlefield and the Rev. Wayne Neyland will officiate. Interment to follow at Marlow Cemetery, Marlow, La.
