On Feb. 22, the Calcasieu Parish 4-H Homeschool students completed “Forensics Day 2019.” The day consisted of presentations by the Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s Office, Lake Charles Police Department and Southwest Louisiana Crime Lab.

Students were able to learn and see first-hand topics including crime scene processing, human anatomy and wound interpretation, and the latest in forensic science. The day concluded with the students processing a mock “crime scene” using the skills they learned throughout the day.

Speakers during the day included: LCPD — Police Chief Shawn Caldwell, Deputy Chief Franklin Fondel, Lt. David Streva, and Lt. Lecia McCullough; Coroner’s Office — Chief Investigator Charlie Hunter, Investigator Megan LeBoeuf, Investigator Megan Clement, and Investigator Ashley Diaz; Crime Lab — Director Tracy Legros, and Monica Quaal.
