Gwendolyn Fleming Carlson
Gwendolyn Fleming Carlson passed away on Feb. 19, 2019. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Raymond A. Carlson and her son Raymond A. “Buddy” Carlson Jr. She is survived by her daughters, Susan, Kathy and Carol; and 5 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 2, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Vinton. Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. at the church, before the service.
Gwen was born in Chicago, Ill., on Nov. 12, 1930. She graduated from Sulphur High School and received her RN from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Galveston, Texas. Upon graduation she returned to Sulphur where she helped open West Calcasieu-Cameron Hospital.
Service and volunteering were very important to Gwen. She was president of the Literary Club, a child advocate for CASA and an active member of First Baptist Church, where she thoroughly enjoyed teaching summer Vacation Bible School and helped start the “Bag Lady” group who crocheted sleeping mats from grocery bags for the homeless.
Gwen was also a well known and respected antique dealer. She was considered an expert on Irish Belleek china.
The family would like to especially thank Heart of Hospice and Dr. Jason Fuqua for their care and kindness.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gwen’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or First Baptist Church of Vinton.

Dianna Marie Doucette, 72, passed away Feb. 23, at 3:40 a.m. Dianna moved to San Francisco, Calif., in 1964. There she made her home.
Love and memories of her will remain in the hearts of her brothers, Robert Morris Doucette and Michael Jerome Doucette. Also chersing memories of her are sister-in-law, Mary Louise Doucette; nephews, Kevin and Marvin Doucette.
All final formalities will be private in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Frank Franklin, 50, died Feb. 23. Service will be at 2 p.m. today, Feb. 27, at Hixson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff. Burial will be at New Ritchie Cemetery under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff.

Carroll Tuthill Guidry, 72, died Feb. 24. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. today, Feb. 27, at Matthews and Son Funeral Home. Interment will be at St. Jules/ Tee-Mamou Cemetery.

David Hartwell Hollingsworth, 73, of Starks, died Friday, Feb. 22, at a local hospital. Memorial service will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at Carter Cemetery in Carter Settlement under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home.

Fred Mitchell Myers Jr., 53, died Sunday, Feb. 24. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today, Feb. 27, in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa.
F. Faye Pearson
F. Faye Pearson entered life May 14, 1940. She entered eternal life June 1950.
She was appointed IMB missionary on Oct. 8, 1968. She arrived in Taiwan on Aug. 28, 1969. She retired from missionary service in May 2009.
Faye arrived in Heaven on Feb. 20, 2019.
“Cookie” Richard
Karen Beth “Cookie” Richard, 69, died Sunday, Feb. 24.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Creole. Burial will be in Sweetlake–Grand Lake Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
Joseph Issac Young
Joseph Issac Young, age 85, of Lake Charles, La., passed away on Monday, Feb. 25, 2019. Joseph was born Jan. 27, 1934.
Joseph was a native of Sulphur, La., and lived most of his life in Lake Charles.
He was preceded in death by wife, Rita Gibbs Young; parents, Allen and Mildred Young; grandparents, Tilley and Dora O’Quain; and a great-great-grandson, Jace Bennett.
Those left behind to cherish his memories are four sons, Wayne “Pete” Young and wife “Cricket” of Lake Charles, Dwight Young and wife Terri of Sulphur, Perry Fillion and wife Tammy of McComb, Miss., and Paul Fillion of Lewisville, Texas; three daughters, Paula LeJeune and husband Russell of Lake Charles, Connie Zilbiskie and husband Charles of Spring, Texas, and Sharon Perrodin of Lake Charles; twenty-five grandchildren; forty-nine great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, 2019, at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Burial will follow in Hayes Cemetery in Hayes, La. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, and will resume at 9 a.m. until time of service on Thursday.
