Fregia is accused of killing Perez, who was eight months pregnant, using blunt force trauma at a residence in Oakdale before she burned and buried the body.
Perez disappeared in March 2011 after leaving a doctor’s appointment in Alexandria.
A missing persons report was filed in the case which remained a cold case until January 2015 when the Allen Parish Sheriff’s Office received information from a state wildlife agent who learned that one of Fregia’s minor children had information on Perez’s death.
The tip led authorities to a home on Matthew Street in Oakdale where Perez’s remains were found. The house was reportedly owned by a relative of Fregia.
District Attorney Todd Nesom said members of the Perez’s family were present during the sentencing and were pleased with the outcome.
Authorities believe Fregia killed Perez to take her baby and raise it as her own, then burned and buried the body in a wooded area near the home. She also burned a blanket, a plastic storage tote and other evidence.
