Woman arrested for battery of an officer
JENNINGS — A Gueydan woman who authorities said was resisting arrest tried to grab a deputy’s taser and pepper spray during a struggle with deputies during her arrest.
Tessa Hebert, 31, was arrested Friday on charges of disturbing the peace, public intoxication, battery of a police officer and resisting an officer.
Chief Deputy Chris Ivey said the incident began when deputies patrolling Lake Arthur saw a female walking in the roadway on Eighth Street between Mill Avenue and Ravey Avenue in Lake Arthur.
The female, later identified as Hebert, appeared to be intoxicated and told deputies she needed to get to her father’s residence in Gueydan because she was not feeling well, Ivey said.
As deputies were questioning her, Hebert became erratic yelling “cop, help me, help me.” She then lunged toward deputies, grabbing the deputy’s arm and shirt, Ivey said.
Hebert began grabbing the deputies’ taster and paper spray as they tried to detain her, he said. Hebert continuously resisted when deputies placed her in handcuffs.
DeRidder man arrested for theft
BATON ROUGE — A Beauregard Parish man has been arrested for livestock theft, authorities said.
The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry Livestock Brand Commission arrested 20-year-old Mario R. Glorioso Jr. of DeRidder for allegedly killing and stealing a farm-raised deer in Beauregard Parish. According to the owner, the three-year-old Sika deer was valued at about $3,000.
Investigators say Glorioso shot and removed the deer from the owner’s property on the night of Jan. 30.
“Our alternative livestock industry consists of more than 300 licensed farms creating both a multi-million dollar annual economic impact and recreational opportunities. When someone kills and/or steals a farm raised deer or exotic, that person is taking another person’s property and that is a crime,” said Commissioner of Agriculture and Forestry Mike Strain.
Glorioso was booked into the Beauregard Parish Jail for theft of property valued over $1,000 but less than $5,000. If convicted, the suspect faces a fine and/or jail time.
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and the Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Department assisted in this investigation. The Louisiana Brand Commission investigates livestock theft and farm related crimes.
