Beauregard Parish authorities on Tuesday arrested a 46-year-old man after DNA analysis placed him at the scene of a Dec. 27 daytime burglary, officials said.

Christopher C. Kemp was charged with burglary. Bond was set at $30,000. Mark Herford, Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office chief detective, said a search of Kemp’s residence turned up stolen property.

Five other daytime burglaries occurred across Beauregard Parish near the Christmas holiday, but Herford said no evidence links them to Kemp.

Traffic stop on I-10 ends in drug bust

A Pensacola, Fla., man was arrested last week after 10 bundles of cocaine were found in his vehicle during a traffic stop, authorities said.

The drugs, which weighed about 12 pounds, are worth about $157,000, authorities said.

Kavin Dwayne Grandison, who was driving a 2006 Kia passenger car, was stopped at about 10:45 a.m. Feb. 22 on Interstate 10 East near Sulphur, said Lake Charles Police Chief Deputy Mark Kraus.

Officers grew suspicious, Kraus said, but Grandison declined to give them permission to search the car.

He said a police dog indicated the vehicle contained drugs, giving authorities probable cause to search it. Kraus said the officers, with the parish narcotics task force, found the drugs in the gas tank.

Grandison was charged with possessing over 400 grams of cocaine.
