Federal retirees’ benefits not subject to La. tax

Published 7:00 pm Monday, February 26, 2018

Is it true that retired federal employees in the state do not have to pay Louisiana state taxes? Do federal employees still working have to pay state taxes?

Louisiana R.S. 47:44.2 excludes from state income tax the retirement benefits of military and nonmilitary federal retirees.

Form to renew card available online

How do you renew a green card?

“You should renew your Permanent Resident Card if you were issued a card valid for 10 years that has either expired or will expire within the next 6 months,” reads a U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services fact sheet.

“If your Permanent Resident Card is valid for only 2 years, you are a conditional resident. You will need to file a petition to remove the conditions of your residence before the card expires. You may file this petition 90 days before your conditional green card expires.”

To renew a 10-year green card you must submit a Form I-90 to the USCIS. The form is available at www.uscis.gov.

DOTD takes reports of state road issues

Who could be contacted about an accident-prone spot caused by the road condition on the interstate?

The bad spot on the interstate is at the bumpy asphalt patch that’s been there a long time on the eastbound 210 loop exit ramp coming from Sulphur to Lake Charles where it is inclining and just about to turn south just off I-10.

I think I’ve seen four motorcycle accidents in less than two years. Cars have no problem with the spot, but it really needs to be smoothed out for motorbikes.

Don Duberville, state Department of Transportation and Development regional engineer administrator, said people can report interstate and state highway issues to the DOTD’s Lake Charles office at 437-9100.

“With respect to the complaint on the I-210 ramp, the request is noted and a maintenance crew will respond as soon as possible,” Duberville wrote Thursday in an email.
