Mallard to host benefit tournament

<p class="p1">A tournament on behalf of longtime greens superintendent LeRoy DeReese will be played at Mallard Cove on March 3.</p><p class="p1">DeReese, who spent 26 years as the greens superintendent at Pine Shadows and then four years at Mallard Cove, is battling lung cancer.</p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">The tournament, which will also feature a silent auction, will be a dogfight. The event is expected to draw between 80 and 100 golfers. The tourney will use a shotgun start.</span></p><p class="p1">More information and sign in sheets can be obtained at the pro shop.</p><p class="p2">l</p><p class="p1"><span class="s2">Brooke Tyree and Daphney Tilton played in a Texas Junior Tour outing at Horseshoe Bay outside Austin. The event was cut to 18 holes because of inclement weather. Tyree shot 75 for third place and Tilton posted a 76 for fourth.</span></p><p class="p2">l</p><p class="p1">The high school season continues this week with Iowa hosting its tournament at Mallard Cove on Saturday.</p><p class="p2">l</p><p class="p1">Greg Gilder came up with a hole-in-one during play at the Lake Charles Country Club last week.
