LSU closed the early football signing period with a boom on Friday, landing two high-profile players, including the nation’s No. 1-ranked wide receiver.
Terrace Marshall out of Parkway High School in Bossier City had not committed in advance but gave the Tigers their first five-star recruit of the season when he picked LSU over Texas and Texas A&M.

Also signing Friday was Jarell Cherry of Carter High School in Dallas, a four-star defensive end who was the Tigers’ highest-rated committment before Marshall came on board.
Cherry, 6-3, 235, who will likely shift to the outside linebacker spot in the Tigers’ 3-4 defense, was recruited by a host of schools, including Alabama, Oklahoma and Texas.
Marshall’s signing also came at a position of need as LSU loses its top two receivers, DJ Chark and Russell Gage, after the Citrus Bowl on New Year’s Day.
“There is nothing like staying in your home state,” Marshall told 24/7 Sports. “I couldn’t pass up that opportunity.”
The 6-foot-4, 200-pound receiver missed the last eight games of his senior season at Parkway, but was still rated top nation’s No. 1 receiver by 24/7 Sports and ESPN. He was also the top-rated overall player in Louisiana.
The Friday additions came on the heels of LSU adding running back Tae Provens out of Madison County Ala., near Huntsville on Thursday.
