Station owner, DirecTV in retransmission dispute

<p class="p1"><strong>Why do KPLC and DirecTV not have Channel 29 on? We’re missing all the Saints games and all the Cowboys games.</strong></p><p class="p2">Channel 29, KVHP-TV, and Channel 7, KPLC-TV, are owned by different companies.</p><p class="p2">The first, a Fox affiliate, is owned by North Carolina-based American Spirit Media, and the second, an NBC affiliate, is owned by Alabama-based Raycom Media.</p><p class="p2">DirecTV’s lineup lacks KVHP because the satellite provider and the station’s parent company can’t agree on the price DirecTV should pay to retransmit the Fox station.  </p><p class="p2">DirecTV spokesman Tarvis Thompson told The Informer on Oct. 11 that the provider needs the station owner’s permission to offer KVHP.</p><p class="p2">In response to another reader’s query, Thompson said American Spirit Media “is deliberately stopping KVHP from reaching your home until American Spirit receives a significant increase in fees” in exchange for retransmission rights.</p><p class="p2">“We want to get KVHP back into your local lineup as soon as possible. …,” Thompson wrote in an email. “Our goal is to resolve this matter quickly and reasonably, and we appreciate your patience while we attempt just that.”</p><p class="p2">In a statement posted online, American Spirit Media blames the satellite provider for the disruption.</p><p class="p2">“On September 21, 2017, DirecTV dropped KVHP from their lineup.
