What is the law on klds rolling houses in Moss Bluff, and why hasn’t the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office charged these kids?

Kim Myers, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman, said people caught rolling a house — that is, strewing toilet paper on someone’s property — can be charged with vandalism and trespassing.

“Over the past month, during the football homecoming events, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office has charged many high school students from all over the parish for vandalism and trespassing for rolling houses and other acts of vandalism,” Myers wrote in an email.

“These charges have been sent to the District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.”

Packers offered stock in company in 2011

If you’re interested in purchasing shares in the Green Bay Packers team, how would you go about doing so, and how much would it cost?

The team, owned by a public nonprofit corporation, hasn’t sold stock since 2011, when it needed money for improvements at Lambeau Field.

That offering — the fifth in the team’s history — distributed over a quarter-million shares, which cost $250 each, plus a $25 handling fee.

Packers shares aren’t tradable and will provide no monetary profits to their holders — a fact the team’s 2011 offering document made clear.

“Common stock does not constitute an investment in ‘stock’ in the common sense of the term,” reads an all-caps notice on the document’s cover. “Purchasers should not purchase common stock with the purpose of making a profit.”

Station unavailable because of dispute

Why doesn’t DirecTV offer the Fox station KVHP-TV here in Lake Charles?

The station and the service provider severed ties in late September when the two couldn’t agree on the price DirecTV should pay to retransmit KVHP.

“We ask our cable and satellite partners to pay us a fair market rate for the right to carry our signal. The price we ask is determined by the marketplace — business to business negotiations that take place between our local company, network and syndicated programmers, and hundreds of cable and satellite companies. …,” reads a statement posted online by American Spirit Media, the station’s owner.

“Unfortunately, a small number of national cable and satellite companies recently decided that for some reason they don’t have to participate in the marketplace like everyone else.”

Tarvis Thompson, a spokesman for DirecTV owner AT&T, said American Spirit Media is seeking “a significant increase in fees” in exchange for retransmission rights.

“We want to get KVHP back into your local lineup as soon as possible. …,” Thompson wrote in an email. “Our goal is to resolve this matter quickly and reasonably, and we appreciate your patience while we attempt just that.”
