JENNINGS — The meeting room at the Jeff Davis Parish Library was dedicated Friday to honor the memory of longtime employee Rhoda Marsh, who died in November.

“It’s very special for us to have this done for her and to keep her memory alive,” said Jill Barr, Marsh’s daughter.

“We all dreaded this day, but the fact that this was held on her 60th birthday made it more special.”

Marsh’s husband of 41 years, Dorian, said the library was her life and that “she loved this place and she would have loved this.”

Family friend Pamela LaFleur, a breast cancer survivor, said Marsh was an inspiration to her “because she knew how to handle cancer. She never complained. She was always upbeat and positive.”

Mildred Sonnier, who had known Marsh since she was a child, said she was a sweet person who was always helpful.

Library Director Linda LeBert-Corbello said Marsh was a gifted leader who had an effect on the lives of library patrons and staff, including her.

“For over 30 years Rhoda served as one of the most conscientious employees I have ever known,” she said. “At a mere age of 18 years of age she came to us and stayed 33 years and learned every aspect of library work.

“She was gifted with the ability to teach all those around her and to have such courage and good faith.”
