Man charged with beating girlfriend
A 19-year-old Sulphur man was charged with attempted second-degree murder after he beat his girlfriend until she was unconscious, authorities said.
Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kim Myers said deputies responded to a call Thursday afternoon from a local hospital.
Myers said a woman was undergoing emergency surgery for life-threatening injuries.
She said the victim’s boyfriend, John R. Hodge Jr. of 2532 Broussard Road, beat her until she was unconscious and then beat her again after she regained consciousness.
Judge Robert Wyatt set Hodge’s bond at $200,000.
The victim remains in critical condition, Myers said.
