Family-friendly comedy show coming to Strand Theater

JENNINGS- — Comedy is coming to the Strand Theater

Broussard Productions will present comedian Brent Reed and comedian/ventriloquist Russo Lewis at 6 p.m. tonight, June 22.

“This is something I wanted to do for a long time,” Broussard said. “I was seeing all the shows going on in Crowley and other areas and thought I’d love to have that here because it would be something different.”

“I thought people would like comedy. I love it and my husband and I try to go to comedy shows when we travel.”

Broussard said the audience can expect  good clean comedy and a show that is family oriented.

“Comedy is wonderful and it will lift your spirits,” she said. “It’s something children, especially teenagers, will enjoy and something that we don’t have around here.”

“I am looking forward to seeing a big attendance and people really enjoying it. I can guarantee there will be a lot of belly laughs and fun.”

Reed, of Houston, known as the “Heavyweight of Clean Comedy,” has been providing clean, Christian comedian for audiences for 25 years.

He has performed standup comedy for hundreds of fundraisers, school and churches. He has also done motivational speaking at corporate events and schools.

He arrives early to meet his audience and likes to interact and improvisation is his speciality.

Lewis, of Lafayette, is a world class comic ventriloquist along with his sidekick, Brooklyn Birch.

He is listed as one of the worlds’ 50 greatest comedians by the Ed Sullivan Show, and has performed on the Ed Sullivan, Dean Martin and Mike Douglas shows. He has also performed for President Jimmy Carter and toured with the USO in Vietnam.

He continues to perform family friendly acts with Brooklyn Birch on cruise ships, at casinos and has performed at the Cajun Comic Relief at the Heymann Center in Lafayette.

Broussard’s next show will be stand up comedian Josh Novey on July 29.

Popcorn, candy and drinks will be sold during the performance.
