DeRidder bargain hunters will be in for a treat this weekend with the return of the area’s annual Treasure Fest yard sale extravaganza on Saturday morning from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
For the second year in a row, the event will be held on the grounds of Pinewood Elementary School along Mel Branch Drive, just behind the parish fairgrounds, and as of Wednesday 74 participants have registered for a spot on this year’s sale roster. The event is free to attend and is being organized by the Beauregard Parish Tourist Commission.
Director Lori Darbonne stated that the event seeks to be a “one stop garage sale shopping trip” and has grown to be a very successful event for the parish. In its original years, the event was held at DeRidder’s West Park, but eventually outgrew that location in 2014.
“There really is nothing else like this in this area and it’s a great event not just for shoppers, but also for local families interested in holding a garage sale where they can have hundreds of visitors peruse their items up for sale,” Darbonne stated.
“We have had a great response to this year’s event on social media and it looks like we are going to have some great weather this weekend to compliment it, so we hope that the community and those from the surrounding areas join us on Saturday to find some unique deals.”
Darbonne stated that the pariticipants who have signed up for the event will be selling a variety of clothing and household items that will include plants, furniture, and even some antiques.
The event also serves as a main fundraiser for local community organizations including Louisiana Lifelines for K9s, who will be offering up garage sale items to fund their efforts to adopt and spay local stray animals.
