DONALDSONVILLE — Authorities say they have found the body of what appears to be a woman floating in a bayou near Donaldsonville.

Media outlets report Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Bobby Webre says a truck driving over a bridge between La. 308 and La. 1 spotted the body floating in Bayou Lafourche on Thursday.

Webre says fire officials and deputies were able to bring the body to shore. He says they haven’t determined if foul play was involved.

Investigators believe they may know the victim’s identity based on tattoos on the body. A fingerprint analysis will be conducted and the family will be notified before the identity is released to the public.

Webre says the body has been taken to the Baton Rouge Morgue.
