Three people, including a 16 year-old who will tried as an adult, were indicted Thursday in connection to a fatal shooting April 6 on Tulip Street.
Lake Charles police said that Cody Lastrapes, 22, was fatally shot and three others – a man and two women – were injured in the 2000 block of Tulip Street, where 79 shell casings from four different weapons were recovered. Police Chief Don Dixon said that the four were not the shooters’ intended targets as they walked up to a black four-door 2005 Mazda Tribute that had been involved in an earlier incident on Rose Street. He said their target was Deon T. Demourelle, 19.
“These subjects, indiscriminately and without any regard to the (public’s safety), fired into the car,” said Dixon.
He said Demourelle, who was nearby, then came out and a gun battle ensued.
Demourelle was arrested that day and charged with two counts of illegal use of weapons and one count of obstruction of justice. The grand jury indicted him on the same charges.
Police arrested J’Kristopher D. Scott, 19, and charged him with one count of second-degree murder and three counts of attempted second-degree murder. He was indicted on the same charges.
Jamar Harmon, 16, who was also arrested, was indicted Thursday on one count of second-degree murder and three counts of attempted second-degree murder. Harmon, according to the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office, will be tried as an adult.
Judge Michael Canaday issued a grand jury warrant Thursday for Harmon’s arrest and set his total bond at $1.65 million. Harmon is expected to be transferred from the Calcasieu Parish Juvenile Detention Center to the Calcasieu Correctional Center, where Demourelle and Scott are currently being held.
