Sulphur losing cable office

<span class="R~sep~ACopyBody">SULPHUR — Mayor Chris Duncan said Monday he is not happy with Suddenlink Communication’s announcement they are closing their office here at the end of next month.</span>
<span class="R~sep~ACopyBody">A letter sent to the city reads, “We have made the difficult decision to close our local store located at 1626 Ruth Street in Sulphur, effective on Friday, February 24, 2017. This is a hard decision, but declining customer visits at this store and the expense of maintaining the location have made it necessary.”</span>
<span class="R~sep~ACopyBody">Duncan said he was unable to get verification of declining visits from Suddenlink and was told they would not be available until their corporate headquarters approves their release.</span>

<span class="R~sep~ACopyBody">“This office doesn’t just serve Sulphur,” Duncan said. “It serves all of West Calcasieu.”</span>
<span class="R~sep~ACopyBody">At their December meeting, the Sulphur City Council amended a proposed ordinance that would have increased franchise fees for Suddenlink Communication customers to keep those fees at their current 3 percent.</span>
<span class="R~sep~ACopyBody">According to the letter, Suddenlink will continue to serve the Sulphur area, and technicians will be available for services relating to issues, installations and upgrades.</span>
<span class="R~sep~ACopyBody">Customers are advised to visit the Lake Charles store at 1538 E. Prien Lake Road or contact the care center to speak to a customer service representative regarding service or billing issues, or to order services.</span>
