Voting starts this week

<span class="R~sep~ACopyBody">Early voting begins Tuesday for the Nov. 8 elections. Voting will be 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m., through Nov. 1, except Sunday, at voter registrar offices and designated locations.</span>

<span class="R~sep~ACopyBody">In Calcasieu Parish, voting will be in the parish courthouse, 1000 Ryan St.; the Moss Bluff Library, 261 Parish Road; and the West Calcasieu Business Center, 500 A N. Huntington St. in Sulphur.</span>

<span class="R~sep~ACopyBody">Voters should take a valid driver’s license, a Louisiana special ID or some other generally recognized picture ID that contains a name and signature. Voters without a picture ID must sign an affidavit to vote.</span>

<span class="R~sep~ACopyBody">Eligible voters may request an absentee-by-mail ballot at voter registrar offices or from the secretary of state’s website.</span>

<span class="R~sep~ACopyBody">The last day to request a mail ballot is Nov. 4.</span>

<span class="R~sep~ACopyBody">The presidential and U.S. senate races highlight the ballot, which includes congressional and Public Service Commission seats and six constitutional amendments.</span>

<span class="R~sep~ACopyBody">Additionally, area ballots will have municipal elections and millage renewals.</span>

The rest would go to sewer improvements, public safety and park improvements.</span>

<span class="R~sep~ACopyListing">Renewal of a 10-year, 2.31-mill property tax for building, street and bridge maintenance in Lake Charles. It would generate $1.4 million a year.</span>

<span class="R~sep~ACopyListing">Renewal of a 10-year, 1.7-mill property tax for playgrounds and recreation centers in Lake Charles. It would generate over $1 million a year.</span>

<span class="R~sep~ACopyListing">Renewal of a 10-year, 5.27-mill property tax to provide for pay increases and starting salaries for police, fire, public works and other Lake Charles city workers. It would generate $3.3 million a year.</span>
