In response to questions from two readers, The Informer last Sunday printed the salaries — and years of service — of the Lake Charles mayor and city department heads, along with the annual pay of the Calcasieu Parish school system’s top administrators.
That column, and a subsequent one, noted that The Informer had requested similar information from the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury and said the information would be printed when it became available.

Candace Townsend, McNeese State University spokeswoman, said Frazar Memorial Library should be open when the fall semester begins on Aug. 22.
“The library renovation project began in 2014, and it was projected to be a two-year project,” Townsend wrote in an email.
“Renovation work should be completed by June 30, and the library staff will begin moving back into the building and directing the massive task of relocating books and materials into the renovated library.”
She said the renovation work included foundation repairs; air-conditioning and heating system improvements; new lighting; and restrooms that comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Additionally, Townsend said, new flooring was installed, and the fire alarms and sprinkler systems were upgraded.
“The project consists of two phases. The first phase, completed in September 2015, included the four floors of the library addition that house the general book stacks and government information,” she wrote. “The current project includes the two floors of the original building and the exterior.”
Townsend said the library is now operating in the New Ranch’s Parra Ballroom, which features a study area with 16 computers. She said library hours are the same and that library workers are available to help students find materials.
