LAFAYETTE — McNeese State’s in-state showdown week won’t start until Friday.

<span class="R~sep~ACopyBody">Wednesday night’s game at No. 20 Louisiana-Lafayette was called 5 minutes after the scheduled first pitch. With no mutual makeup date between the schools, the game will not be replayed.</span>

<span class="R~sep~ACopyBody">For that reason it was hoped to get the game in. Both teams were stationed in their dugouts under the assumption the game would get underway despite staring at an empty field being battered by a torrential downpour.</span>

<span class="R~sep~ACopyBody">The Cowboys (22-12) were looking for another chance to climb up the Ratings Percentage Index against the Ragin’ Cajuns (25-12), win or lose. ULL was 15th in the RPI and McNeese went into the game 59th.</span>

<span class="R~sep~ACopyBody">It was the third midweek game McNeese has lost to rain, but it was able to make up washed-out engagements against Louisiana Tech and LSU.</span>

<span class="R~sep~ACopyBody">The same result isn’t possible with ULL. McNeese’s rescheduled game at Tech is on April 26. On May 3, McNeese is scheduled to visit Southern University. The next day, May 4 is off the table because ULL has a policy of not scheduling midweek games during finals week.</span>

<span class="R~sep~ACopyBody">The Cajuns have no midweek game scheduled May 10-11, but McNeese is visiting Baylor on those dates.</span>

<span class="R~sep~ACopyBody">However, the Cowboys do not have to wait long for their next games of major significance. SLC leader Southeastern Louisiana (26-11), which was 62nd in RPI prior to Wednesday night’s game at LSU, visits Joe Miller Ballpark this weekend.</span>
