What are the schools in Calcasieu Parish doing to prepare for the potential influx of new students to this area? Are we making plans to accommodate these new students?
The Calcasieu Parish School Board has taken part in all discussions about area workforce predictions, but “it has been difficult to determine whether school-age children will accompany the industry-based employees and where they might ultimately live,” said Superintendent Karl Bruchhaus.
“The School Board has a stockpile of temporary classroom buildings stored at our Chennault facility that can be relocated and ready for students within 60 days, which solves immediate growth situations at any campus,” Bruchhaus said in a statement forwarded to The Informer.
“CPSB has used riverboat proceeds to construct 430 permanent classrooms around the parish and would certainly consider continuing the process, with additional bond funding, as a more permanent solution to student growth, once the growth has been determined to be permanent.”
