LSU alumnus and “Teen Beach Movie” writer Mark Landry is returning to Louisiana to sign copies of his new comic book, “Bloodthirsty: One Nation Under Water.”
Landry will be at Louisiana’s Double Play in Baton Rouge noon-2 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. Nov. 4 and at Paper Heroes in Lake Charles 1-5 p.m. Nov. 7.
Celebrity chef Jeremy Coco will provide a free meal at the Baton Rouge event, while supplies last.
Landry will also give an informal advice session for anyone interested in a career in the arts 10:30 a.m.-noon on Nov. 7 at Stellar Beans before the signing at Paper Heroes.
Fans are welcome to bring any “Teen Beach Movie” memorabilia to either event for Landry to autograph.
“Bloodthirsty,” the not-for-kids comic book from Landry and “Interview with the Vampire” artist Ashley Witter, was picked up for publication by London-based Titan Comics (“Doctor Who,” “The Blacklist”) and announced at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.
The five-issue miniseries sees Virgil LaFleur — a mixed-race former Coast Guard rescue swimmer — taking on the challenge of fighting a band of corrupt, bloodthirsty villains in New Orleans as a new Category 5 hurricane approaches the city.
Critic Jake Johnston said, “ ‘Bloodthirsty’ #1 is one of the year’s strongest debuts, and I was immediately engrossed by it.”
“With the catastrophe of Katrina still fresh in the mind of the public; ‘Bloodthirsty: One Nation Under Water’ accomplishes its goal to introduce a riveting story and the genesis of a hometown hero,” wrote Pauly D. of Pop Culture Uncovered in his 4.5/5 star review.
“’Bloodthirsty’ is a unique, mature thriller soaked in dark mystery fitting of the Big Easy. Landry’s script pops against Ashley Witter’s glorious artwork,” wrote critic B. Duff.
