Christus St. Patrick Hospital on Monday commemorated its 106th anniversary with a Mass and brick dedication ceremony.
“It’s a recognition of over a century of service to Lake Charles and Southwest Louisiana,” said Donald Lloyd II, hospital administrator. “It’s a way for us to honor the commitment of our sisters, who over a century ago bequeathed this ministry to us. It’s been a long-storied history — one that has wonderful medical traditions and contributions and one that we intend to live out another century.”
After Mass, a brick dedication and blessing took place in Grace Gardens, which was formed about nine years ago. A bench and about 50 new bricks were dedicated and blessed Monday. Families were present for the ceremony.
“It’s a beautiful, quiet and serene garden right next to the Convent Chapel,” said Kay Barnett, Christus St. Patrick Foundation director. “It’s an area that the sisters used to have as a garden.”
A dedication wall has been erected in the gardens and each year, bricks are etched in honor and remembrance of loved ones.
“It’s a beautiful ceremony,” she said. “These are people who are a part of our family and friends of the hospital.”
Lloyd said 2014 will be an exciting time for health care in the region.
“I know there is a lot of controversy about the Affordable Care Act and what that means for the delivery of health care,” he said. “We’re thriving and growing in Southwest Louisiana today because of the vibrancy of our community and because there is so much clinical opportunity and need here.”
