In the Charpentier District at 1030 Pujo St., the Woolman-Cash House is undergoing renovation and will be completed in February.

“Hopefully we’re exceeding the expectations of the neighbors on the quality of work we’re doing on the home,” said Randy LeJeune, owner of Rhino Rhenovators.

Built in 1905, the home was put on the National Register of Historic Places by the U.S. Department of the Interior in the 1980s.

LeJeune hopes to bring the home back to its original integrity but with the modern conveniences of today.

The 108-year-old home used to belong to Joe Cash, a professor at McNeese State University, who owned the home for more than 30 years with his wife, Lydia. He bought the home from Amanda and Granville Woolman, the original owners and builders of the home. Cash retired in 2010 and moved to Idaho to be around family.

“I was hoping someone like Randy would buy the house and pick up where I left off,” Cash said by phone. “Randy is following historic guidelines, and I look forward to seeing the end results. I’m glad someone has bought the house and is saving it as we were doing.”Cash finished the second floor but didn’t renovate the downstairs. The couple lived on the second floor.

The two-story home has a front porch and balcony. Unique to the home is a side porch and balcony, along with the carriage home in the back. The carriage home was recently converted into two apartments.

LeJeune said the home is being rewired and that new plumbing is being installed. What was once the back parlor is being turned into a new modern kitchen. Before the renovation, the kitchen was upstairs.

There was no downstairs bathroom, so one is being installed off the back study. The home has a front parlor, a dining room, a back study, breakfast room and an entry parlor downstairs.

Upstairs there are three bedrooms and three bathrooms and a sitting room with a fireplace.

The home is under contract and the new owners hope to close on the home in March.
