The Southwest Louisiana Charter Academy will hold an information session next Thursday for parents seeking to apply for the upcoming school year. Parents must attend the session to receive a confirmation code that will allow them to access the school’s application online.
The Southwest Louisiana Charter Academy will open in Calcasieu Parish in August. It will be the second charter school in the area to be managed by Charter Schools USA.
“It is vitally important for parents to come to the meeting and get in on the ground floor,” said Judge Gene Thibodeaux, president of the Lake Charles Charter Academy Foundation Inc.
“The information that is presented will answer a lot of their questions on how to enroll, the curriculum, instruction, staffing and transportation.”
During its first year, the school will serve students in kindergarten through sixth grade. In subsequent years, it will expand to serve seventh and eighth grades. The school will hold classes in a temporary facility this fall and move to a permanent location on Nelson Road in August 2013.
“The great demand we saw when we opened Lake Charles Charter Academy and its tremendous success encouraged our board to open a second school in order to fill the need for a high-quality education option for students in Lake Charles,” Thibodeaux said.
The information session will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 19, at Trinity Baptist Church. Enrollment will be open through May 29.
