Authorities looking for convicted felon Ryan

A man who pleaded guilty in a 2010 shooting and was to begin serving a 13-year prison term next month has fled from authorities after he violated the conditions of his interim release, police said.
Nicholas D’Ray Ryan, 27, pleaded guilty to aggravated second-degree battery — amended from attempted second-degree murder — on Nov. 29. Judge Wilford Carter allowed him to remain free until Jan. 2 as long as he obeyed a curfew and stayed out of trouble, officials said.
But Ryan was arrested Dec. 2, three days after his sentence and conditions were set, for second-offense marijuana possession and taking contraband into a penal institution, said Lake Charles Deputy Police Chief Mark Kraus.
His bond was set at $4,000 by Judge Ron Ware, and Ryan bonded out before anyone realized he had violated Carter’s orders, Kraus said.
“We were following the court order where he was to report to jail on Jan. 2,” said Calcasieu Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kim Myers. “When (Ryan) was re-arrested, he was able to post bond without being in violation of Judge Carter’s orders.”
Kraus said Carter issued a pickup order for Ryan, who was arrested Jan. 12, 2010, in connection with the Dec. 25, 2009, shooting at Jessie D. Clifton Park on Opelousas Street.
He said the District Attorney’s Office objected to Ryan’s release because of his “propensity for violence and narcotics use.”
Ryan, who is described as being 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighing 180 pounds, was last known to be living in Sulphur at 602 Maple St., Kraus said in a news release issued Friday.
Kraus told the American Press the department could not comment on whether Ryan is believed to still be in the area.
