MONROE (AP) — A northeast Louisiana day care owner will be sentenced in January for defrauding the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services Child Care Assistance Program.
The News-Star reports (http://bit.ly/njTURE ) 37-year-old Angela S. Lafonta of Winnsboro, owner of Tinkerbelle’s Day Care in Winnsboro and Rayville, was convicted by a federal jury last week of defrauding the department out of $100,000 over a three-year period.
Lafonta was convicted of 3 counts of making false claims to the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services.
Testimony showed that claims were made for reimbursement for day care services for children who were not cared for by the center or that some claims showed an inflated and inaccurate number of hours of attendance.
Sentencing has been set for Jan 3.
