JENNINGS — A local teenager was ordered to serve two years of probation after she pleaded guilty Sept. 7 in 31st Judicial District Court to falsely accusing a police officer of raping her.

Meghan Franks, 18, of Lake Arthur must serve 90 days in the parish jail, pay a fine of $1,000 plus court costs, pay $100 to the Jeff Davis District Attorney’s Office prosecution reimbursement fund and pay $40 to the Indigent Defender Board fund.

All fines and costs must be paid within the first 18 months of probation, District Attorney Michael Cassidy said.

Franks must admit herself to a mental health treatment facility for examination of her self-esteem and follow any recommendations and avoid further criminal trouble, he said.

The District Attorney’s Office recommended the sentencing based on Franks’ age and the fact that she admitted her actions when confronted, Cassidy said.

Franks, who was 17 when she made the accusation, was arrested in April by state police after a nearly three-month-long investigation, authorities said.

She admitted lying about the incident to police and said she injured herself to make the claims more credible, officials said.

Physical evidence and inconsistent statements made by Franks led police to believe her claims were false, authorities said.
